Save the date for Tuesday, June 9, 2026

Join us on Tuesday, June 9 at Minneapolis Washburn High School's track for the third annual Mini-Apple Night of Miles — a special summer night of racing the mile under the bright lights, produced by Minnesota Distance Elite. The Mini-Apple Night of Miles is an event for all ages and levels of experience, from kids to elites, celebrating the spirit of competition and sportsmanship through the famed distance.

5:00 p.m. | Gates & packet pick-up open

6:00p.m. | Mini-Apple Mini-Miles (untimed 50-yard & 100-yard dashes for kids 12 & under)

6:45 p.m. | All-Comers Sections presented by Twin Cities Running Company (heats run all-ages with combined genders, seeded slowest to fastest, as additional heats fill with registration this start time will go earlier and will be updated as the event approaches)

8:05 p.m. | High School Sections presented by Nike (including Invitational Girls' Mile at 8:30pm and Invitational Boys' Mile at 8:40pm)

8:50 p.m. | Elite Sections (including Invitational Women's Mile at 8:50pm and Invitational Men's Mile at 9:00pm)

Professional & High School Invitational Miles

Women's Professional Invitational Mile Athlete Introductions: 8:45pm
Women's Professional Invitational Mile Start Time: 8:50pm
Men's Professional Invitational Mile Athlete Introductions: 8:55 p.m.
Men's Professional Invitational Mile Start Time: 9:00pm
Awards Ceremony (Men’s & Women’s Champion): 9:15pm

After completing their race, winners will be asked to remain available for an awards ceremony to be held at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Application & Registration

To be considered for the Professional Invitational Miles, athletes should have run faster than 4:05 (mile)/3:46 (1500m) for men and 4:50 (mile)/4:24 (1500m) for women since December 1, 2025. The Elite Athlete Recruiting & Hospitality Chair reserves the right to consider athletes who have not met that standard if they have exceptional performances at other distances or outside of that timeframe.

If you are interested in competing in the Professional Invitational section of the Mini-Apple Night of Miles, please contact Minnesota Distance Elite Head Coach Coach, Chris Lundstrom at coachlundo@gmail.com; please include a link to your TFRRS/World Athletics profile, as well as any other relevant information. In certain limited cases, limited travel stipend and homestay accommodations may be available for high-level out-of-area athletes.

If accepted, the Elite Athlete Recruiting & Hospitality Chair will send you Professional Invitational Miles registration instructions and a code for a comped entry.

Who is putting on this meet?

Minnesota Distance Elite is putting on the meet in furtherance of its mission. Minnesota Distance Elite is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides opportunities for talented distance runners to train in an environment that prepares them to compete with the best in the world while serving as a focal point for distance running in Minnesota. Your support of MDE through registering, buying a ticket, or donating is greatly appreciated.

Who benefits from this meet?

Minnesota Distance Elite is the primary beneficiary of the meet. This in addition to providing a competition opportunity for its local professional athletes and the community in furtherance of its mission. You can support Minnesota Distance Elite by making a donation here.

What do I get for registering?

A bib, four safety pins, and a no-frills, professionally-managed and timed meet (the Mini-Apple Miles are untimed). A registration also gets you the chance to watch a great night of racing including the Mini-Apple Mini-Miles, the All-Comers Miles, the High School Miles, and Professional Invitational Miles.

All registrants and ticket-buyers who make the $10 suggested donation to Minnesota Distance Elite will also experience the satisfaction of supporting an organization that makes Minnesotan Olympians.

High School Miles brought to you by Nike

The winners of the High School Invitational Miles will earn renown as the best high school milers in the Upper Midwest! The invitational heat winners will receive Nike gear that may include a backpack, shoes, etc. There are no awards for any other High School heats, but all Invitational and Open High School heat registrants will receive a cinch sack and water bottle from Nike Running.

Mini-Apple Mini-Miles brought to you FOR FREE by Minnesota Distance Elite

The Mini-Apple Mile is a free event for children 12 & under held in the spirit of fun and lifelong fitness. It is untimed and there are no awards. We hope this year’s Mini-Apple Mini-Milers enjoy running’s lifelong benefits and become future High School Invitational, Elite Invitational, and All-Comers Community Mile competitors!
